Channel management: names, categories and roles
Give channels clear names, categories, tags and notes, and assign analysis roles where they help. Original names and values are kept.
Where to find it
- Navigation → Channel management
Steps
- 1
Find a channel
Open Channel management and search original names, custom names, categories, tags or notes. The table lists Channel / Original name, Category and Unit; corrected channels are marked Corrected.
- 2
Describe it
Select a channel and fill in Custom name, Category (left empty, the system category is used), Tags (comma separated, up to 16) and Notes.
- 3
Assign a role if you need one
Choose an Analysis role such as speed, throttle or brake for features like Live instruments. Each role belongs to one channel: (Replaces: X) means saving moves the role from channel X to this one.
- 4
Edit several at once
Tick channels to show batch editing: Batch category with Set category, Batch tags with Add tags (added to the existing tags), and Clear selection.
- 5
Save
Click Save changes. Reset draft discards unsaved edits; closing with edits asks you to Continue editing or Discard changes and close.
Good to know
Originals stay
Renaming never changes the source name, unit, timestamps or samples. Channel pickers find channels by both original and custom names.
Roles are optional
Channels without a role can still be plotted and used in formulas and tables. A role selects an input; it does not convert units or prove that values are valid.
Sampling details
The inspector shows the original name, unit, rate and sample count; Sampling details counts valid, not recorded and invalid samples.
Start over
Clear custom settings for this channel removes the custom settings of the selected channel.
